Overview

Being able to trust your instruments to make quick, easy and accurate measurements in the field is key when dealing with regulatory requirements. The InfraCal2 infrared analyzer is the choice of experts for measuring oil in produced water; oil contamination in soil; and fats oil and greases in waste streams.

Oil in Water - As offshore oil wells age, the increase of produced water challenges wastewater treatment systems. In order to ensure oil levels in the water are under the regulatory limit, it is important to do regular testing. Infrared analysis has been used for off-shore oil in water measurements for over 45 years. Infrared is an accepted oil content measurement as it is least affected by changes in produced water composition.

Oil in Soil - The InfraCal 2 Analyzers allow for TPH (Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons) in soil testing at remediation sites such as leaking underground storage tanks, frac water holding ponds, produced water evaporation ponds or oil spills. Site managers can avoid having costly soil remediation equipment sit idle while waiting for off-site lab results. Sampling takes less than 15 minutes and requires a few simple steps that can be performed by non-technical personnel. The soil is mixed with the extraction solvent, shaken, filtered, and then presented to the InfraCal 2 Analyzer for measurement.


Challenges

Oil in Water - The InfraCal 2 Analyzers give results under 15 minutes and have a reputation for the rugged durability required in the off-shore environment. The sampling procedure requires a few simple steps that can be performed by non-technical personnel. The water is mixed with the extraction solvent, shaken, and then presented to the InfraCal Analyzer for measurement.

The InfraCal 2 TOG/TPH Analyzer is capable of sub-ppm measurements, can store multiple calibrations and has password protection on calibrations and instrument settings.  This updated version of the InfraCal currently used worldwide for oil in water and soil analysis now has increased sensitivity, a multi-language touchscreen user interface and internal data storage.  Data can be exported via USB directly to a PC or to a flash drive.

Oil in Soil - With no moving parts, the InfraCal 2 Analyzers are rugged and portable making them ideal for operation at a remediation site. They are 6.5 inches (127mm) square, weigh less than 5 lbs (2 kg) and can be operated from a 12 volt battery. Different sample stages and solvent choices allow for a measurement range from ppm to percent levels of oil in soil or oil in water. The InfraCal 2 can be calibrated for ppm levels of oil in water or mg/kg to percent levels of TPH in soil.

Oil in Water/Soil Products

InfraCal 2 TRANS-SP - Oil In Water/Soil Analyzer

The InfraCal 2 TRANS-SP  is recommended for measuring oil in water, TPH in soil or FOG in wastewater concentration levels using the traditional EPA methods 413.2 and 418.1 or ASTM method D7066-04 and Freon-113, hydrocarbon-free grade of perchloroethylene, AK-225, S-316 or other spectroscopic infrared transparent solvent as the extracting solvent. Since the extract is deposited into a 10 mm quartz cuvette cell with Teflon stopper, light end volatile components are retained for measurement. Accurate down to 0.1 ppm.

The InfraCal 2 TRANS-SP, the latest introduction to our easy to use analyzers, uses the same measurement technology as the original InfraCal Model CVH, with added features such as data storage and transfer, multiple calibrations and password protection for instrument settings.

InfraCal 2 ATR-SP - Oil In Water/Soil Analyzer

The InfraCal Model ATR-SP is recommended for measuring oil in water, TPH in soil or FOG in wastewater concentration levels when using hexane, pentane or Vertrel MCA as the extracting solvent. Measurement data obtained with this analyzer will correlate to EPA Method 1664 as both procedures are based on evaporation techniques and measuring the residual oil and grease. The analyzer is equipped with a built-in cubic zirconia horizontal attenuated total reflection (HATR) stainless steel sample stage.   The InfraCal 2 ATR-SP is a direct replacement for the original InfraCal HATR-T2 used worldwide for the determination of TOG/TPH in water and soil.
